J.G. was born in East Germany before the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
In the age of 9 he began to learn to play classical guitar at a music school in his Saxony hometown Chemnitz (formerly known as Karl-Marx-Stadt).
His first compositions he wrote in the age of 10.
Later he studied at the special school for music “Franz Liszt” (first composition for small orchestra) and at the University for Music “Franz Liszt” in Weimar.
In this time he played also electric guitar in a very very hard rock band (long hair) and after this in a softer rock band (short hair), wrote compositions for several instruments.
J.G. got some lessons in playing drum set and vibraphone, was an executive producer of a stage play, composed music for another one and taught at a music school.
1999 he started his studies in film composition at the Film Academy Baden-Wurttemberg and he made his degree as a film composer in 2003.
Since 2003 he lives in Berlin and is represented by: MX-IN – Agency for Film Music.
Until today J.G. wrote the scores for films, for TV-series, music for theater, industry, museum and multimedia.
Much of its films were very successful on festivals around the world.
The documentary “Afghans don’t flirt” got a German Television Award in 2005 and the 21. EASTMAN Award on the Hof International Film Festival 2004.
In 2006 Jens Grötzschel and the Sound Designer of the film got the
Best Sound Award by the Pisaf Festival for their common work on the movie
“Eels”.
